The 49th SEAMEO Council Conference and the SEAMEO Center Directors Meeting 2017, in Jakarta, Indonesia

The 49th Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council Conference was held from July 24-26, 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Attending the Conference were more than 200 delegates, Ministers of Education, high officials from the eleven SEAMEO member countries, representatives from associate and affiliate members, SEAMEO Centers and international organizations.

 The conference hosted a ministerial-level forum on the region’s educational initiatives and policies. The ministerial forum set a strategic direction for implementing SEAMEO’s programs throughout the region. During the Council Conference, HE Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Education and Culture, Indonesia, was unanimously elected President of SEAMEO Council for the term 2017-2019.

Following the Council Conference, the SEAMEO Centre Directors Meeting (CDM) 2017 was held at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Indonesia. Alongside report and proposal sharing, the CDM 2017 featured a special session that explored inter-center collaboration on initiatives and pioneering programs within the SEAMEO 7 Priority Areas. During this special session, SEAMEO RETRAC proposed 3 collaborative projects aligned with the SEAMEO 7 Priority Areas. The Centre Directors Meeting concluded with upcoming projects affirmed, new potential partners engaged, and areas for collaboration well defined.
